The game was over before the Angels could settle in. Oakland scored all five of its runs in the first inning and never looked back, with Gage Jump making the lead hold up through seven dominant innings in a 5-0 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday night at Sutter Health Park.
Jump was the story from the second inning on. The left-hander allowed just 1 hit and 3 walks over 7.0 innings, striking out 7 without allowing a run on 107 pitches. He earned his third win against one loss, carrying a 2.37 ERA.
The damage came fast. With the score tied at 0-0 to open the bottom of the first, Shea Langeliers homered to center — 430 feet — scoring Zack Gelof and Nick Kurtz to put Oakland up 3-0. Tyler Soderstrom followed with a solo shot to left center, 402 feet, extending the lead to 4-0. Henry Bolte then brought Jacob Wilson home on a sacrifice fly to center, completing the five-run frame. Langeliers finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBI. Soderstrom went 1-for-4 with 1 RBI. Bolte added 1 RBI on 2 at-bats.
Ryan Johnson absorbed the loss for Los Angeles, allowing all 5 runs on 8 hits over 5.0 innings, with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk on 89 pitches. He falls to 0-2 on the season, with a 12.83 ERA.
Oakland snapped a two-game losing streak to move to 36-38, second in the division. Los Angeles dropped to 30-45, falling to fifth place in the division on a one-game skid.
