The game turned in the fourth inning when Washington scored five runs to break open what had been a 1-1 tie. Miles Mikolas made those runs stand up with seven shutout innings, leading the Nationals to a 10-1 victory over Seattle at Nationals Park.
Mikolas allowed just three hits without issuing a walk, striking out three over seven innings to earn his second win of the season. With a 5.03 ERA, the veteran right-hander dominated Seattle's lineup after the early exchange of runs.
The decisive fourth inning began when Ruiz singled to left, bringing Crews home to put Washington ahead 2-1. Lile doubled to right to score Abrams, then Nuñez singled to center to bring both Ruiz and Lile home. Vivas grounded into a fielder's choice to first, allowing Nuñez to score and complete the five-run outburst that put the game away.
Emerson Hancock absorbed the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over four innings. The Seattle starter struck out two but could not contain Washington's offense once the fourth inning arrived. James Wood and Keibert Ruiz each collected three hits for the Nationals, with Wood going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Ruiz matched that production with his own three-hit performance including a solo homer in the seventh.
Washington improved to 36-35 with the victory, snapping a losing streak. Seattle fell to 37-35, dropping their first game after a win.
