Freddy Fermin led the offensive surge, going 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI. His third-inning blast to left center gave the Padres an early 1-0 lead, and he added an RBI single in the eighth inning that capped the scoring. Xander Bogaerts contributed two hits and scored twice, including both runs in the decisive eighth inning.
The turning point came in the seventh when Gavin Sheets doubled to left to score Bogaerts and tie the game 2-2. Taylor followed with a bunt single that brought Sheets home and gave San Diego a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. The Padres broke it open in the eighth as Taylor singled to left, scoring both Bogaerts and Bowen to extend the lead to 5-2.
Andrew Abbott took the loss for Cincinnati, allowing three runs on four hits over six innings with six strikeouts. The left-hander held the Padres to one run through six innings before the late rally cost him his fourth loss of the season. Adrian Morejon earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, improving to 5-1.
San Diego snapped a one-game losing streak and improved to 33-31. Cincinnati extended its losing streak to four games and fell to 31-33.
