The game turned on one swing in the fifth inning. Josh Naylor's grand slam to right field erased a 1-1 tie and gave Seattle control in a 6-3 victory over Baltimore at Camden Yards.
Naylor went 2-for-4 with four RBI, driving in all the runs that mattered. His 358-foot homer scored Pereda, Young and Rodríguez after Bliss had tied the game with a sacrifice fly earlier in the inning. The first baseman now has seven home runs and 30 RBI this season.
Baltimore struck first in the third when Alexander scored on Alonso's sacrifice fly to center. The Orioles managed just one more run until the eighth, when Alexander singled home Taveras to cut the deficit to 6-3. Mayo scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for Baltimore's other run.
Emerson Hancock earned the win for Seattle, allowing one run over five innings with three strikeouts. Ted Gibson took his first loss of the season, giving up three runs in 4.2 innings. Andres Munoz closed out the ninth for his 10th save.
Seattle improved to 34-32 and remains atop their division despite the loss snapping a brief winning streak. Baltimore fell to 31-35 with their second straight defeat. Gunnar Henderson sits one home run away from 100 for his career.
