Tanner Bibee finally broke through. The Cleveland right-hander threw eight scoreless innings to earn his first win of the season, leading the Guardians to a 6-0 shutout victory over Texas at Globe Life Field.
Bibee (1-7) allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out three over 87 pitches. His ERA: 4.09. The performance ended a frustrating stretch for the right-hander, who had been winless through his first eight starts of the season.
Cleveland broke the game open with four runs in the fifth inning. Jose Ramirez started the rally with a solo homer to right center in the fourth, then Brayan Rocchio added another solo shot to right in the fifth. DeLauter singled home Ramirez, Manzardo doubled home DeLauter, and Schneemann capped the inning with an RBI single to center that scored Manzardo.
Jack Leiter (3-5) struggled for Texas, allowing five runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. The right-hander walked three and struck out two before being lifted after 92 pitches. His ERA: 4.69.
Cleveland improved to 36-29 and snapped a two-game losing streak. Texas fell to 31-32 after winning their previous game. Ramirez, who went 1-for-3 with two walks, sits five home runs away from 300 for his career.
