Seattle broke the game open in the second inning and never looked back, defeating Oakland 4-1 behind Emerson Hancock's dominant start at Sutter Health Park.
Hancock allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings, striking out three and walking two to earn his fourth win of the season. The right-hander carried a 2.78 ERA into the contest and improved to 4-2 with the victory.
The Mariners seized control in the second inning with three runs. Josh Naylor scored on Mitch Garver's ground-rule double to left field, a call that was overturned after Oakland challenged the stadium boundary ruling. Rob Refsnyder then scored on Cole Young's sacrifice fly to center, and Garver came home on J.P. Crawford's sacrifice fly to right. Julio Rodriguez added an insurance run in the fourth with an RBI single to left that scored Victor Robles.
Oakland managed just four hits against Seattle pitching and didn't break through until the ninth inning when Tyler Soderstrom homered to center field, a 409-foot blast that accounted for the Athletics' only run. The losing pitcher allowed nine hits and four runs over five innings, taking his first loss of the season.
Seattle snapped a losing streak and improved to 26-29, while Oakland fell to 27-27 after the defeat. Victor Robles led the Mariners' 11-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with a double.
