Grissom went 3-for-5 with six RBIs, delivering the decisive blow after the Angels had chipped away at Detroit's lead. His four-run homer to right-center capped a five-run eighth inning that broke the game open. Earlier, Grissom had driven in two runs with a third-inning single.
The Tigers built their lead through a productive fifth inning. Kevin McGonigle's triple scored Vierling and Pérez to tie the game 4-4, then Jahmai Jones singled McGonigle home to put Detroit ahead 5-4. Pérez added a solo homer in the sixth to extend the margin to 6-4.
Will Vest took the loss after allowing five runs in 1.1 innings. Jose Fermin earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, striking out three. Keider Montero allowed four runs over 5.2 innings for Detroit, carrying a 4.09 ERA.
Los Angeles extended its winning streak to three games and improved to 20-34. Detroit fell to 21-33 after snapping a losing streak.
