Toronto seized control in the opening innings and never looked back, defeating Detroit 4-1 at Comerica Park behind Kevin Gausman's dominant start.

Gausman (3-3) allowed four hits over six innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. His ERA: 3.61. The right-hander faced minimal trouble, keeping Detroit scoreless through his six-inning effort before Tyler Rogers closed with a perfect ninth for his first save.

The Blue Jays struck immediately against Jack Flaherty. Vladimir Guerrero homered to left in the first inning, then Varsho scored on a Flaherty wild pitch to make it 2-0. Toronto added two more in the third when Varsho tripled to center to score Guerrero, and Sánchez followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Varsho home.

Flaherty (0-5) absorbed the loss, allowing four runs over six innings with four strikeouts. His ERA: 5.77. Detroit managed just one run in the eighth when Jones grounded into a fielder's choice to score Pérez, but the rally ended there.

Guerrero went 2-for-4 with two runs and his third home run of the season. Varsho contributed two hits including the triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Flaherty reached 200 career games played in this start. Toronto improved to 20-25 while Detroit fell to 20-26.
