The seventh inning changed everything. Washington turned a 4-3 game into a rout, scoring seven runs to defeat Baltimore 13-3 at Nationals Park.
Keibert Ruiz carried the offense with a 3-for-5 performance that included a three-run homer and five RBIs. Brady House went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, hitting a double and a two-run homer. Jacob Young added a three-run blast in the decisive seventh inning.
Baltimore briefly threatened after Ruiz's second-inning three-run homer gave Washington a 4-0 lead. Samuel Basallo and Tyler O'Neill hit back-to-back homers in the seventh, and Ward singled home Taveras to pull the Orioles within 4-3. But House doubled home Wood to restore Washington's cushion, then Lile reached on a fielder's choice as House scored. Ruiz singled home Abrams and Lile, and Young's three-run homer capped the seven-run outburst.
Cade Cavalli earned the win with 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 8 strikeouts. Chris Bassitt took the loss, giving up 4 runs over 5 innings with a 5.44 ERA.
Washington improved to 22-23 and snapped a losing streak. Baltimore fell to 20-25.
