The game was over in the first inning. Luke Raley's three-run homer to left center gave Seattle a lead it never relinquished in an 8-3 victory over Houston at Daikin Park.
Raley went 2-for-5 with three RBI, scoring twice as the Mariners collected 11 hits. The first-inning blast scored Brendan Donovan and Randy Arozarena, who had reached ahead of him. Raley now has 10 home runs and 27 RBI this season.
Seattle extended its advantage in the fourth when Mitch Garver homered to left, scoring J.P. Crawford. Garver finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. Cole Young's sixth-inning double to right scored both Garver and Dominic Canzone, pushing the lead to 7-1. Crawford capped the scoring in the eighth with an RBI double to center that brought Raley home.
Houston managed only brief resistance. Yordan Alvarez homered to center in the third inning, then scored again in the sixth when Braden Shewmake doubled to left, also driving in Christian Walker. Alvarez went 3-for-3 with a walk, collecting his 14th home run of the season. Mike Burrows took the loss, allowing seven runs over 5.2 innings with a 5.72 ERA.
Luis Castillo earned his first win of the season for Seattle, giving up three runs in 5.2 innings. The Mariners snapped a one-game losing streak to improve to 21-23. Houston fell to 17-27 despite winning their previous game.
