Bailey Ober dominated from start to finish, throwing a complete game shutout as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Miami Marlins 3-0 at Target Field on Tuesday night.
Ober was masterful over nine innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven and walking none on 89 pitches. The right-hander improved to 4-2 with a 3.46 ERA, controlling the strike zone throughout his second complete game of the season.
All the scoring came in the fifth inning on a sequence of aggressive baserunning and power hitting. Byron Buxton stole home while Trevor Larnach stole second base, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead despite a challenge from Miami. Moments later, Ryan Jeffers launched a two-run homer 407 feet to left field, scoring Larnach and extending the lead to 3-0.
Eury Perez took the loss for Miami, allowing three runs on three hits over six innings. The right-hander struck out eight but walked three batters, falling to 2-5 with a 4.94 ERA. The Marlins managed only two hits against Ober and could not mount any sustained offensive pressure.
Minnesota extended its winning streak to two games and improved to 18-23. Miami saw its two-game winning streak end, falling to 19-22.
