Eduardo Rodriguez controlled the game from the first pitch, carrying Arizona to a 5-1 victory over New York at Chase Field. The left-hander pitched 8.1 innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits while striking out four to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Rodriguez worked efficiently through 100 pitches, carrying a 2.25 ERA into his sixth start. He walked three but never allowed the Mets to mount a serious threat, retiring the side in order four times.
Waldschmidt provided the offensive foundation with a two-run double in the second inning that scored Arenado and Vargas for a 2-0 lead. After Luis Torrens doubled home Carson Benge in the sixth to cut the deficit to 2-1, Waldschmidt answered immediately with an RBI single that scored Vargas. Ketel Marte then tripled to right field, scoring Barrosa and Waldschmidt to extend the lead to 5-1.
David Peterson kept the Mets close through five innings, allowing three runs but none earned due to defensive miscues. Huascar Brazoban took the loss after walking three batters in one inning of relief, allowing two runs in the sixth.
Arizona improved to 18-20 and snapped a losing streak. Rodriguez now sits two wins away from 100 career victories. New York fell to 15-24.
