Leiter delivered 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out six. The right-hander walked five but worked around the traffic, carrying a 4.85 ERA. Jalen Beeks earned the win with 1.1 innings of relief.
Josh Jung opened the scoring with a solo homer to right center in the second inning. Alejandro Osuna followed with an RBI single that scored Evan Carter. The Rangers added two more in the fourth when Joc Pederson doubled home Carter and Osuna singled home Pederson. Justin Foscue homered in the fifth, and Kyle Higashioka capped the scoring with an RBI single in the sixth that brought Jung home.
Edward Cabrera took the loss for Chicago, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings. The Cubs managed just four hits total against Texas pitching and failed to score for the first time in 11 games.
Texas snapped a two-game losing streak to improve to 17-21. Chicago's 10-game winning streak ended as they fell to 27-12. Pederson sits seven doubles away from 200 career doubles.
