The Tigers seized control in the first inning and never let go, defeating Miami 6-1 at Comerica Park. Detroit scored twice before the Marlins recorded an out, setting the tone for a dominant performance that snapped their losing streak.
Riley Greene carried the offense with a four-RBI performance on two hits. He singled home Keith in the first inning, then delivered the decisive blow in the third with a three-run homer to right center that stretched Detroit's lead to 5-0. Greene walked in his other plate appearance, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The early damage came quickly against Janson Junk. Keith doubled to left to score McGonigle, then Greene followed with his RBI single to right. Two innings later, Greene's 408-foot blast effectively ended any suspense. Miami managed just one run in the fourth when Norby hit a sacrifice fly to score Hicks.
Casey Mize earned his first win of the season, allowing six hits and one run over 5.2 innings with five strikeouts. Junk took the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits in five innings of work. Drew Anderson closed out the final 3.1 innings without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out two for his first save.
The victory improved Detroit to 5-9 and moved them off their losing streak. Miami fell to 8-6 with the loss.
